Changes to the requirement of doctoral student enrollment in the semester of graduation are as follows

The Graduate Council has approved a waiver of the mandatory summer enrollment for doctoral students who have applied to graduate in May 2020 and have been delayed until August 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a waiver of the rule that doctoral students must be enrolled in the semester that they graduate. The waiver of the enrollment will be allowed under these conditions only:

    • The student must have applied to graduate in May 2020 by the deadline (March 1st, 2020). This will include students who applied to graduate in previous semesters and the graduation was deferred to May 2020.
    • The student is delayed in graduating because of the COVID-19 pandemic (we will assume that all such delays are the result of COVID-19, so no appeal process will be required)
    • The student actually finishes the degree and graduates in August 2020 (if the student graduates after August 2020, continuous enrollment will be required in accordance with existing Graduate Council rules)
    • The student must be a doctoral student
    • The student is enrolled in spring 2020
