  1. Minutes for the May 17th, 2018, Graduate Council meeting will stand approved if no corrections are received.  (Please review the minutes on the Graduate School web page before the meeting: Graduate Council Minutes.

Discussion: Our current conflict-of-interest policy states:  “Graduate students’ advisory, thesis and dissertation committees must be composed so that no member of the committee has any personal relationship to the student which might create a conflict of interest or give that appearance.  These relationships may include legal, family, and business relationships…”  However, we are increasingly encountering situations where the major advisor and the student wish to form a business partnership to create a start-up company.  Do we need to modify the conflict-of-interest policy?
