CIEDES	Description and justification of the request	This is a wholesale change of our Ed.S. program. The old curriculum was scrapped in favor of the curriculum listed here. | Arkansas has recently created certifications in program administration and SPED administration and an increasing number of school districts are requiring these endorsements for their instructional leaders..\\n\\nIn response, we have created a new Ed.S. program that combines courses in Educational Leadership, Curriculum Instruction and SPED. The courses are combined in blocks based on what each student's professional goals. \\n\\nThere are two potential benefits for completing coursework for Program Administration or K-12 Online Teaching in conjunction with an Ed.S. Program:\\n\\n1. Students seeking an Ed.S. are considered "degree seeking" students per financial aid guidelines and are therefore eligible for financial aid to assist in funding their studies. Students who only enroll in CIED Graduate Certificate Programs are designated "non-degree seeking" and are not eligible for financial aid.\\n\\n2. Students earning an Ed.S. distinguish themselves academically as practitioners with extensive educational expertise.\\n\\nWe already have a number of students who are requesting such a program. This is perhaps the most important justification since there were exactly 4 students enrolled in the current iteration of the Ed.S.. program before I became Program Coordinator..\\n\\nFurthermore, while the former program contained courses that were rarely/never taught, the courses listed here are taught regularly and have capacity to add students. Therefore, no additional funding/ staffing issues should result from this change. \\n	The admission requirements have been changed to only require the GRE for applicants with a GPA below 3.5 in prior graduate work. To take a more holistic approach, the admissions committee will rely on educational experience, academic qualifications, writing sample, and quality of fit between the student and the Ed.S. program. | The Ed.S. is a practitioner degree and our applicants must have already earned a Master's degree with a GPA over 3.25. By setting a cutoff at 3.5, we are expecting applicants to have completed prior academic work with a high level of achievement. This is more than sufficient, when considered alongside the other data points, for admission to the Ed.S.

Courses were updated to reflect current offerings in CIED and ESRM. Some course numbers and titles were out of date. Other courses were no longer offered and were replaced by courses that are offered and taught regularly. The specific requirements for the Interest Area courses were replaced with a 9 hour minimum required block of courses approved by the faculty advisory committee. I also added two Course of Study grids for Odd and Even year matriculation. Finally, the admission criteria omits the GRE in favor of a process based on prior experience and academic achievement. | This program no longer existed in reality as it was represented on paper. It was far too specific when it was created and relied upon classes that were rarely, if ever, taught. All of the courses in this current iteration of the program are already offered and taught on a regular basis. Adding flexibility to the Interest Area allows students to supplement the core offerings with specific interest areas, while also allowing for the variability of course offerings that is typical for these areas.

Upon completion of the HIED-MED program, students will be able to: Exhibit professional competencies as practitioner scholars and educators at postsecondary institutions, including a commitment to continuous professional development. We also reformatted and updated the catalog description to add clarity and consistency in the language. The overall changes to the program only add up to 12 credit hours - increasing degree by 3 credit hours; dropping Overview and Management from core courses; and adding Diversity to core courses). | All of these changes are in response to the external program review conducted in 2018-2019.
