The meeting was called to order at 2:02 p.m. by Chair Christa Hestekin.

  1. Minutes for the October 20th, 2022 Graduate Council meeting stand approved, as no changes were suggested. (Please review Graduate Council Minutes)
  2. Announcements: Professor C. Hestekin began by welcoming the Council. Professor C. Hestekin informed the Council about the upcoming Commencement ceremonies taking place on Saturday, December 17th. Professor C. Hestekin then thanked several members of the Council for volunteering as Marshals and Banner Carriers for the Commencement ceremonies. Professor C. Hestekin then informed the Council that the Graduate School & International Education recently hired Ms. Cheri Poellot as the new Director for Graduate and International Admissions.
  3. Dean’s Report: Professor C.R. Rom began by welcoming the Council. Professor C.R. Rom informed the Council that the Chancellor search had concluded, and that Professor Charles Robinson is the new Chancellor for the University of Arkansas. Professor C.R. Rom then informed the Council that enrollment for the Graduate School & International Education is up for a total of 4,321 students, with a 3% increase in international student enrollment and a 60% total student increase, year-to-date. Professor C.R. Rom then reported to the Council that summer and fall applications were up 103% and that there was a 10% growth in non-degree seeking graduate students.

  6. Old Business, New Policy: The Admission to Online Graduate Degree Programs (Attachment B) contained in Attachment B was approved unanimously.
  7. The Change to Absence policy to align with UG policy (Attachment C) contained in Attachment C was tabled for revisions by Professor K. Hall and will be discussed at the following Graduate Council meeting.
  8. The Proposed course additions and changes (Attachment D) contained in Attachment D were approved unanimously.
  9. The Council discussed and unanimously approved the Graduate Faculty recommendations for faculty, graduate faculty, and faculty renewals. (Attachment E).

There being no other business, the Council adjourned at 3:18 p.m. The Council will meet next in person on the 5th floor of Old Main and on Teams on December 15th, 2022.
